Yukon River – Eagle to Circle

Ickert-Bond Lab: systematics meets ecology, paleontology, and genomics

Located in Interior Alaska, Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve, provides an excellent opportunity to explore remnants of ancient steppe vegetation as the great Yukon River strikes through bluffs and mountains.  The silt-laden Yukon here flows constricted and swift through a great geologic fault. The scenery was spectaclur and the largely untouched landscape offered amazing opportunity for collecting on the bluffs.  We drove to Eagle and unpacked our two Ally canoes and immediately started our journey.
