So proud of my students, they’re receiving well-deserved recognition through this year’s awards. Previously I shared awards received from the American Society of Plant Taxonomists to Channing Buckmaster (2026 Undergraduate Research Prize) which recognizes exceptional, independent research in plant systematics conducted by undergraduate students and to Cuyler Bleecker for receiving the 2026 Graduate Student Research Award by the American Society of Plant Taxonomists. His research proposal entitled ‘Tracing phylosymbiosis in liverworts: A global phylogenomic study of Gymnomitrion and its fungal associates ‘ was chosen for the W. Hardy Eshbaugh award.

Now I just received the announcement that Ph.D. student Stephanie Zaborac-Reed is the recipient of the 2026 Hermann Becker Student Field Work Grant from the Botanical Society of America, Paleobotanical Section! This grant provides funds for undergraduates to conduct research and for graduate students to carry out field work for their thesis or dissertation. Stephanie was
recognized for her project, “Filling in the Gaps: Geological and Paleoecological Reconstruction of a Newly Identified Paleoflora Near Anchor Point, Kenai Lowland, Alaska.”
